A self-described "biomorphic abstractionist", Marxer dedicated her life to painting the landscapes she loved, from lush marshes in the Everglades to dreamy Midwestern prairies. She effortlessly traversed the lines between realism and abstraction, drawing from the dreamlike and the surreal as she attempted to reconcile the beauty of nature with the cruel reality of environmental destruction. Marxer's work has been exhibited in more than 50 solo and group shows throughout the United States, including shows at the Brooklyn Museum and the Addison Museum in Andover, Mass. Her paintings reside in the permanent collections of Long Island University and the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida. Beyond her illustrious painting career, Marxer is remembered as a passionate patron of the arts who founded the Artists In Residence In Everglades program, enabling future artists to live and work inside her beloved Everglades National Park.
