Edward Curtis produced a great many compelling images of Native Americans which appeared in his multi-volume work, "The North American Indian". It depicts seven mounted Indians, their backs to the viewer, riding away on a narrow trail, facing imposing cliffs. Produced in 1904, it is signed "Curtis" in the lower right-hand corner with copyright information in the opposite corner. Printed on glass, this distinctive photograph is known as a gold or orotone. It measures 14" x 11" and is housed in the original 17.5" x 14.5" frame with Curtis Studios paper label affixed to the back. It is in excellent condition and a prime example of Curtis's creative genius.
