Artist: Dominique Vivant, Baron Denon (French, 1747-1825). Engraver: Giovanni Battista Cecchi (1748 or 1749 - approximately 1815). Two engravings: "Quadro Geroglifico Estratto Da Un Manoscritto Egiziano" AND "Manoscritto Trovato Addoso Ad Una Mummia" - Publisher: G. Tofani - Place: Firenze - Date Issued: 1808. Dominique Vivant, Baron Denon was a French diplomat under Louis XV and Louis XVI. In addition, Napoleon appointed him as the first director of the Louvre museum following the Egyptian expedition of 1798-1801, and his "Voyage dans la basse et la haute Egypte" (Journey in Lower and Upper Egypt, published in 1802) became a foundational source for the study of Egypt. Accompanying General Desaix to Upper Egypt, Denon created many sketches of Egypt's ancient monuments of art, at times under enemy fire. Size: 15" L x 21.5" W (38.1 cm x 54.6 cm)

Condition
Slight wear commensurate with age with some staining, mostly to the margins. Images are vivid. A few notes handwritten in pencil referencing the plate numbers and positions. Nice plate marks.
