Description
**Originally Listed At $400**
Central Europe, Austria and Poland, ca. 14th to 18th century CE. An impressive ensemble of 6 plaster seals of European rulers from the Medieval to Early Modern period. All of annular form with stately iconography, the seals belong to Niklaus Palatin (ca. 1300), Duke Rudolf IV of Austria also known as Rudolf the Founder (1339 to 1365), Archduke Ferdinand II of Further Austria (1529 to 1595), King Augustus III of Poland (1696-1763), Holy Roman Emperor Francis I (1708-1765), and Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa Walburga Amalia Christina (1717-1780). Each seal is embellished with assorted relief imagery, such as portraits, a figure on horseback, and a pair of fighting beasts. The dating of each seal corresponds to when the seal molds were made, however, the plaster seals themselves were likely created at a later date. Size of largest (Maria Theresa): 5.1" Diameter (13 cm)
