North Africa, Neolithic period, ca. 6000 to 3000 BCE. A hand-knapped chert tool that was use as an axe or scraper tool, the surface is notable for the natural beauty of the stone and mauve hued veining. The polished surface along the blade and faces was a technological advancement of Neolithic cultures - polishing the flaked stone made it easier to cut trees and cultivate the land. Size: 4.75" L x 2.5" W (12.1 cm x 6.4 cm); 6" H (15.2 cm) on included custom stand.
