Description
Northern Africa, Sahara Desert, Neolithic period, ca. 10,000 to 6000 BCE. A collection of 3 stone blades perhaps for handheld use, knapped from beige-hued chert. Such tools were used by ancient humans adapting to the changing climate of the Sahara - during this time period, weather conditions called the Neolithic Subpluvial meant that the Sahara was a green, fertile landscape, ideal for hunter and gathering cultures. Size of largest: 5.7" L x 3" W x 1.2" H (14.5 cm x 7.6 cm x 3 cm)

Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection; ex-Minerva Gallery; ex-Benjamin Vega, California, USA, acquired in 2006 to 2007; ex-Gene and Virginia George, brought to the USA from 1961 to 1966
