Includes the list of subscribers, among them leading society figures and dignitaries, surviving members of the Johnson circle like Bennet Langton and Hester Thrale, and fellow women writers Anne Radcliffe, Hannah More, Maria Edgeworth and Jane Austen, then an unknown 20-year-old. The appearance of Jane Austen's name is thought to be the first time her name appears in print. Extensive ink marks on front blank leaf of first volume, and ink gift inscription on top margin of all title pages.
