Lyndon B. Johnson served as the 36th President of the United States from 1963 until 1969. He began his political career serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing the 10th district of Texas from 1937 until 1949, and actively served in the U.S. Navy as a Commander during World War II from 1941 - 1942. During his term as a U.S. Senator from Texas from 1949 until his ascension to the Vice Presidency under John F. Kennedy in 1961, Johnson was Senate Majority Whip from 1951 - 1953, Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus from 1953 - 1961, Senate Minority Leader from 1956 - 1957, and Senate Majority Leader from 1957-1961.
