Signature: The first signed with monogram lower right, and inscribed "Paris 1897"; the second with monogram upper right (two versions of Martinez's monogram). Date Created: Baudelaire portrait, 1897; the other c. Late 19th/Early 20th Century. Medium/Ground: Watercolor/wash on cardboard. Size: 7 1/4in x 4in; and 5 5/8in x 5 7/8in. Condition: Toning, soiling/spotting. In 1897 Xavier Martinez entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Atelier Gerome (Jean-Leon Gerome, 1824-1904), and in 1900 the Academy of Eugene Carriere (1849-1906). From the Family of Xavier Martinez (1869-1943), Elsie Whitaker Martinez (1890-1984), and Micaela Martinez DuCasse (1913-1989).
