Phaya Naga (Water Serpent) Laos Bronze Holder - The Phaya Naga is an aquatic serpent which lurks in the Mekong River. Originally from Hindu myth they play a big part in Thai, Lao and even Shan mythology. It is incorporated extensively into Lao iconography, and features prominently in Lao culture throughout the length of the country. Made of gilt bronze, decorated with pieces of glass. Depicts a naga's body curled with a place for something to be placed. It's head is upright with mouth agape, showing his fangs. Measures 21”h x 13”w. Item comes from the collection of Timothy Koock.
