"The Century Magazine; Nov.1902 - Apr.1903 Volume LXV, New Series Volume XLIII", published by Century Company, New York, 1902. Features 7 color plates by Maxfield Parrish "The Great Southwest," 4 color plates and 4 monochrome pages of Howard Pyle's "Travels of the Soul" and additional color and monochrome plates by other artists.
Marbled, hard boards, leather spine and corners [aging and repairs: see photos]; 7” x 10”; 2.1/4” shelf space; slightly damaged front endpaper; viii pages including upfront Index to the entire volume + 964 pages, a little soiling, a few page corner folds, very good condition.
The Century Magazine was an illustrated monthly magazine first published in the United States in 1881 by The Century Company of New York City, which had been bought in that year by Roswell Smith and renamed by him after the Century Association. It was the successor of Scribner's Monthly Magazine. It was merged into The Forum in 1930. The magazine was a notable publisher of fiction, poetry, travelogs, popular sciences and History. In the early 1900s, The Century continued to publish the writings of some of the most famous historians of the era along with first-person accounts of those who had worked in the highest levels of government. Justin Harvey Smith published four articles on the American Revolution in The Century in 1902 and 1903.
