North and Judd began in 1832 as the "North Company" in New Britain, Connecticut, which made “saddlery hardware” and “tried to satisfy the needs of the rider.” The business grew quickly and was a supplier to the U.S. army during the Civil War and again during the Spanish-American war and even the first World War. In the 1920s, they bought the August Buermann company which had started after the Civil War. Additionally, Buermann bits and spurs are one of the most famous makers in Cowboy bit and spur history. MAKER: Buermann and North and Judd. APPROX AGE: Vintage. SIZE: These bits range in size from 5 to 6-1/2 inches, and the mouth piece range from 4 to 5 inches. CONDITION: Pretty good for their age, normal wear expected.
