An Edison 'Opera' Phonograph And A Collection Of Phonograph Cylinders, American, circa 1910,
Type SM, Model A, Serial No. 1625, complete with 21-inch diameter Music Master horn, in mahogany cabinet signed Edison to the front, with maker's plaque detailing manufacturing and patent details with serial number, type and model, with winding handle and cast brass carrying handles to the sides, with domed mahogany lid, together with an extensive collection of more than ninety Edison cylinders, the majority Blue Amberol,

While Thomas Edison's first patent was in October 1896, the 'Opera' phonograph was first offered in the US market in 1911, and the United Kingdom a year later. By 1912 Edison's Blue Amberol cylinders were also introduced, as the superior cylinder record format. The 'Opera' model was marketed as a significant improvement on its 'Idelia' predecessor, providing a sound quality and durability not previously available.
The present example comes with almost one hundred phonograph cylinders including Opera, Christmas songs, Folk, and Classical, many of which are Edison Blue Amberols. A comprehensive list of cylinders with ID Numbers, Titles and Performers, is available on request.
