U.S Navy Over There. An Albert Sterner World War I poster. George M. Cohan composed the song Over There in 1917, that would become the anthem for the First World War; Sterner depicts a somber, bold image of Columbia, sword of war in hand within a scene of urgency, wrapped in the billowing American flag and a sky filled with smoke from the outgoing Naval vessels. She hastens the sailor off to war on the distant shores of Europe.
