Item Details
Description
Victorian silver pair of oval open salts with blue glass liners, each with beaded serpentine rim above openwork sides pierced with stylised floral and foliate motifs around a central vacant oval panel, the whole raised above four claw feet, hallmarked Henry Manton, Birmingham 1863; together with a slightly later mustard pot, similar in design with engraved crest to hinged lid, hallmarked London 1892. Combined silver weight 5.44 ozt (169 grams). (3).
Condition
All three pieces display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Some deeper scratches and nicks are visible, also some slight surface dints. There are also remnants of polish. Some slight rubbing but the hallmarks on the Victorian pair are mainly clear and legible. One of the glass liners is lot thicker than the other, therefore one is possibly original and the other a later replacement. Small nicks and chips to both and there is a large crack in the thicker liner. The hinges on the mustard pot lid are in working order, however the lid does not close properly, therefore leaving a slight gap. Hallmarks are quite rubbed and maker's mark is partly distorted. Impressed retailer's mark to underside. Minor nicks to glass liner.
