Description
Extraordinary large rare retro bone carved 1940s brooch, GIA Report.
93.33mm x 32.92mm x 16.19mm
Davids notes: An amazing artist signed bone carved 1940s brooch. The center figure has a superhero type figure with wide shoulders and a brass pin. This comes with a GIA certificate showing that the brooch is NOT ivory, but lab proven BONE so it is LEGAL to sell in all 50 states of the United States.---On one leg is the initials of the artist. There are two diamond shaped letters, the second one is G.
Davids notes: My guess is that this is a designer, sculptor, painter or artist that took a break from what he or she normally does, to make this brooch for a friend or loved one. I have never seen this design in a lifetime in the antiques business, or something similar. It might be a onetime creation by someone, and was rarely seen or worn.
The pin back lifts out and the piece can easily been worn like a cloak pin, because the pin back is very thick and strong.
The style is hard to place, it has elements of Italian Futurism, the movement at the beginning of the 20th century, it has elements of Retro, 1940s, and it has Art Deco and Modernism qualities as well. It also seems to have a science fiction look, or space alien appearance. A mystery.
