Description
Lot of two documents related to the death of William H. Guppee of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteers. These documents relate to the settlement of monies owed to his estate by the government for his military service, including his final paycheck and original enlistment bounty.
Guppee, from Agusta, enlisted in August of 1861 and took ill soon after. He eventually succumbed to disease on a hospital ship called “The Empress” in April of 1862. His estate was owed his bounty and final paycheck, and engaged an attorney to assist. These documents evidence that process, which was finally completed in December, 1863 when the sum of $122.96 was paid to an Ann Carr. Both documents are in excellent condition.
