BIOGRAPHY:
Naida was born in Riverside, California, May 17, 1926, to Karl and Audrey Hathaway. She graduated from Glendale High School and soon married Weldon Schorg, an Air Force pilot. They moved to Iowa where Weldon obtained a degree in dentistry, then moved back to California where Weldon set up his dental practice in Costa Mesa. Naida and Weldon raised three daughters in Newport Beach where Naida pursued several artistic endeavors and began her painting career. Her work in oils has been shown in the juried Laguna Beach Festival of Arts and galleries of Laguna Beach.She moved to Caspar 30 years ago and had paintings shown in local galleries and the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Naida was a contributing artist to the Winesong! auction for several years. She traveled to many states, France and Italy to broaden her choice of subjects. She especially loved painting the San Francisco flower carts and Noyo Harbor. One of her Noyo Harbor paintings was featured on the cover of the Mendocino Arts & Entertainment Center's magazine. Naida sold a painting to O.J. Simpson's wife, Nicole, and to an Arabian sheik. One of her works was purchased by a Hollywood production company for use in TV shows and movies.Naida enjoyed backpacking with her three daughters and son-in-law in Alaska. She loved animals and children. She had many pets and was a frequent volunteer at the Humane Society. She made donations to help needy children here as well as in other countries. Naida loved the Mendocino Coast and her home in Caspar.
