Description
Rare 1912 S81 William "Buffalo Bill" Cody Tobacco Premium Silk
Tobacco Silk, 8.75" x 7", made available by Turkish Trophies and Helmar Cigarettes in 1912. The silk showcases a fantastic image of Col. W. F. Cody sitting atop his horse. Slight toning, some fraying to edges, else fine.
Known in the hobby as "1912 S81 Silks" these tobacco premiums are actually baseball players "designed on satin," as it reads on the gift slip. The biggest difference between the two is that silk is a natural fiber and satin is a weave. Issued as a special premium by Helmar Turkish Trophy cigarettes in 1912, the S81 satin collection was part of the very same promotion as the L1 novelty leathers which shares the same checklist on the gift slip shown below.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
