Description
Featured in this lot is this magnificent Chinese Jade Dragons Palace Boat that has been intricately hand carved in the form of two fierce dragons supporting three pagoda tiers, a large sail, a small sail, and two chains, circa 1940-1960. The dragon boat is filled with wishes of smooth sailing (success) ???? and good luck ? in all endeavors. These inscriptions are beveled with gold paint on the large and small sails, respectively. This auspicious gift has been designed with exquisite details such as the fierce heads of two dragons with bulging eyes and exposed teeth, scales and spikes on the dragon bodies that resemble waves in the water, dangling bells, interlocking chains, and a 3-tiered pagoda that leads up to the main sail. In Chinese culture, a dragon is believed to represent power, valiancy, excellence and determination, dignity and divinity. A dragon is believed to have the powers to overcome obstacles to see success. The jade ship was originally constructed from multiple pieces by the artist. You can see the vertical seams where the head and tail were affixed. These are not cracks. Also, the sails, chains, and decorative carved wood stand come as individual pieces and some basic assembly is required. This jade dragon ship fully exhibits creativity spirit and brilliant culture. It has refined shapes and distinctive style. Great art treasure! It is a very exquisite handicraft. The carving on the body reflects the lofty and adept skills. Jade is a desired stone prized for thousands of year in China for its protective powers and healing qualities, and it is also said to stimulate creativity and mental agility, and enhance one's health. This hand-carved jade dragon ship is in very nice condition, one small piece is broken from mast right side and the piece is included. As mentioned above, both sails and the chains are detached, not broken. Measures 14.5"W x 15.5"H x 3.75"D
