Description
The lot features a wonderful Southern Plains beaded knife sheath and trade knife attributed to the Kiowa. The sheath has artful appeal, comprised of Indian brain-tanned Buffalo Bison hide, with colorful traditional geometric Kiowa beaded block designs on a white beaded background. The beadwork shows colors of chalk white, greasy yellow, semi-transparent blue, Cheyenne pink, maroon. At the center of the sheath shows a band of rolled tin jingle dangle cones with brass trade beads. The trade knife is a wonderful 19th Century example showing a solid hardwood handle with copper brass rivets with solid brass square shank tacking and a blade with a classic clip point. The set is in good condition and displays beautifully. The sheath measures 10 ½ inches long by 3 inches with and the knife is 12 ½ inches long.
