Bell’esemplare.Mappa che raffigura il corso del Rio delle Amazzoni nella pubblicazione “Relation abrégée d’un voyage fait dans l’intérieur de l’Amérique méridionale” del 1745 ad opera di Charles-Marie De La Condamine. La Condamine partì nel 1735 alla volta del continente sudamericano con una spedizione francese per effettuare osservazioni astronomiche in Ecuador in modo da migliorare le misurazioni della Terra e l'accuratezza delle mappe. La Condamine è stato anche il primo scienziato ad esplorare, descrivere e mappare il bacino amazzonico e la sua intricata rete di affluenti in dettaglio. La sua Relation abrégée fu pubblicata nel 1745, lo stesso anno in cui ritornò a Parigi.

The map depicting the river course of Amazon in the work of 1745 “Relation abrégée d’un voyage fait dans l’intérieur de l’Amérique méridionale” by Charles-Marie De La Condamine. La Condamine left in 1735 for the South American continent with a French expedition with the goal of improving measurements of the Earth and the accuracy of maps. La Condamine was also the first scientist to explore, describe and map the Amazon basin and its intricate network of tributaries in detail. His Relation abrégée was published in 1745, the same year he came back to Paris.
