Item Details
Description
In 1705 Under the Patronage of Duke Leopold of Lorraine, Francois Magnien Founded Portieux, Located in Vosges in Northeastern France. Vallerystahl, the Full Title of Which is Societe des Verrenies Reunies de Plaine de Walsch et Vallerystahl, began in 1836 and Became Klengin et Cie in 1855. It was Headquartered in Close Proximity to the Raw Materials Required to Make Glass in Portieux, Part of the Lorraine Area of Northeastern France. In the Late 19th Century, Portieux was Purchased by Vallerysthal Glass, a German Based Company, and Formed Portieux Vallerystahl to Market Glass to both French and German Markets. The Company Name Included Both Portieux and Vallerysthal in Different Iterations and Languages, Depending on Who the Ruler of the Region Was, France or Germany. A mix of Bohemian and French Glass Workers Created a Thrilling Array of Opaline and Decorative Glass and Some of Their Products Included Art Glass, Cameo Glass and Crystal. As with All Vallerysthal/Portieux Coloured Glassware, the Robin's Egg Color Type is Almost Unique to Them. It is an Aqua Turquoise Which was Produced using Additions of Copper Oxide to the Batch of Crystal with Varying Amounts of other Non-Metallic Elements. The use of Copper as a Glass Colorant can be Traced Back to the Roman Empire. This Two Piece Antique Opaline Footed Butter Dish Set Known as "DAUPHIN" is a RARE and Highly Sought-After Collectible. It is a Truly Stunning Pressed and Molded Shell Design Footed Compote or Butter Dish, in a Robin's Egg Blue Satin Opaline Finish, Crafted by the Famous PORTIEUX & VALLERYSTHAL glass and Crystal Company. In Fact, it is Listed in their 1886 Catalogue and is Difficult to Find in Such Pristine Condition. It is Decorated With the Themes of the Sea......Showcasing a Tripod Base made with Dolphins, a Relief of Stunningly Lifelike Shells Throughout the Body (One Prettier than the Next) and with a Shell Finial on the Cover Lid. Production for This Lovely Piece was Between 1890 and 1919 as the Westmoreland Company's Reproductions bore the "W" mark as an Easy Way to Distinguish their Work from the Originals. It is Finely Crafted and Extremely Detailed. It Presents Beautifully as it is in Excellent Antique Condition with No Chips, Cracks, Repairs, or Flaws of Any Kind. It Can Be Used as a Candy Box, or Trinket Dish for all Your Prized Possessions. This Magnificently Crafted and Decorated PORTIEUX & VALLERYSTHAL Can be Yours, and Will Absolutely Make a Fine Addition to Any Antique Opaline and Milk Glass Collection.
