Rare 19th Century Textile Sample Scrap Book I. Large cloth covered record book measures 18 inches high by 14 inches wide and 5 inches thick. Cover is marked "452, Cotton, Paisley, Geometrics, Plaids, 1879." Book contains 100 pages, covered on both sides with over 1,575 mostly cotton fabric swatches, including shirtings, florals, paisleys, indigo, mourning prints, neons , plaids, stripes, and more, average swatch size is 4 x 6 inches. This scrap book style collection is marked 1879, but the pages were likely assembled in the mid-1900s with remounted swatches that appear to be c1879 French prints along with some earlier samples and also some later Depression era samples.
