Provenance: a Midland, Texas collection; originally purchased directly from the artist at University of Texas at Austin, just after World War II
Porfirio Salinas was born in Bastrop, Texas on November 6, 1910. He lived most of his life in San Antonio, Texas where he died on April 18, 1973. Salinas painted landscapes of Central Texas with an emphasis on the vast bluebonnet fields that grow there in the springtime. He studied with the director of the San Antonio Art School, Jose Arpa (1858-1952), as well as Robert Wood (1889-1979). President Lyndon B. Johnson was an avid collector of Salinas' work.
