Grandma Moses's son, Forrest, was also a farmer who turned to painting in mid-life, emulating his mother's style and spirit. With his life spanning three-quarters of the 20th century, Forrest Moses was particularly aware of tremendous technological advances in farming and transportation, and through his art he found pleasure in recapturing many practices lost in modern times.

Condition
A small area of retouch located at the lower left edge starting with a broadly brushed 3 inch wide area in the snow beneath the children on the horse-drawn sleigh and tapering upwards for about 2 1/4 inches to a 1/4 inch wide spot beneath one of the skaters, with what appears to be craquelure underneath.
A handwritten note on the frame backing paper indicates that the frame was made by M. Toberoff & Company, Inc., New York, of distressed wood with gold leaf insert. There is also one of the 6¢ US Postage Stamps honoring Grandma Moses (issued in 1969) affixed to the frame backing paper.
Framed dimensions are 20 1/2 x 28 1/2 x 1 in.
