Description
This document written on Dec. 24, 1892 has James B. Miller's signature clearly and boldly in three locations. James "Killer" Miller also went by the sobriquet of "Deacon" Miller due his regular attendance at Sunday morning church services. He frequently wore a long black frock overcoat that concealed a metal plate that saved his life on several occasions. A lawman, Texas Ranger, Cattle Inspector, Professional Assassin and personal friend of John Wesley Hardin, another known killer in west Texas. This document covers a cow owned by Myenburg in Reeves County, Texas. It lists nine brands hand drawn in pencil in Miller's own hand. It is signed on the top, at the bottom as Inspector, and again bottom edge partially as witness. 14 in. X 17 in. tear on right edge, foxing and chipping on the bottom edge, ready for framing. Cattle Inspection at the time was a code for cattle rustling, and a shotgun was Miller's weapon of choice, it later became his trademark.
