South America, Peru, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. An elegant pair of nickel-silver and tooled leather riding spurs. The thick leather heel known as a talonera would add protection to the rider's boot heel and further accent the nickel-silver areas- tooled with beautiful scrolling foliate motifs on a textured ground. Two leather straps and nickel-silver buckles extend from the top and bottom for wrapping around the ankle and under the foot. The neck and rowel housing have a fluted, tulip shape, and contain the 9-pointed rowel. Size: 10" L x 4" W (25.4 cm x 10.2 cm)

Missing spikes on both rowels. Oxidation to nickel-silver with areas of green and russet patina. Leather is stiff but well preserved, and intact. Surface wear commensurate with age and use. Overall good condition.
