Description
Originally listed at $400...
Central Asia, Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan, Gandharan Empire, ca. 3rd to 5th century CE. A dignified rendition of a male figure that is hand-carved from green-gray schist. The regal figure presents with piercing eyes, a full mustache above full lips, and an ornately tied crown with a frontal floral element. A large emanation on one side of his head is perhaps the arm of a second figure and suggests that this man was likely part of a larger figural scene. Size: 3.9" W x 4" H (9.9 cm x 10.2 cm); 6.375" H (16.2 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
