Description
Figurative abstract graphite on paper by Joseph Lambert Cain (1904-2003). Painter and educator, Cain studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, the Art Students League under Kenneth Hayes Miller and Kimon Nicolaides, and at the Mechanics Institute, Grand Central Art School, and the Hans Hoffmann School of Fine Arts. He also attended classes at the Sorbonne Institute of Art and Archeology in Paris. He was part of "The Group" in New York a gathering of artists who met in the 1940s which included Milton Avery, Hans Hoffmann and Max Weber. In 1944 was head of the Art Department at the University of Rhode Island. Cain's work has been exhibited at the MoMA NY, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Carnegie Institute.Dimensions: 8 in Height 10 in Width
