Description
Lot of ten pieces of silverware. Included are two round silver platters, 14 in. dia., both featuring the Bremen coat of arms on the rim and a silver content of ‘835’, ca. 1940s. Accompanied by six silver coasters, 4 in. dia., displaying the Bremen coat of arms at the center, also with a silver content of ‘835’. Sold with two silver coasters bearing a raised rim and filigree pattern. These two pieces bear a silver content of ‘800’. One of the platters bears two minor tarnished spots, else only some light scratches which may also be seen on the remaining pieces. Overall, very good. This lot was received by us from the estate of Lt. Col. Bion Welker through his granddaughter. BION WELKER (1894-1981) was a U.S. Lieutenant Colonel who convinced 350 SS troops to surrender in Paris without a shot. He later accompanied British forces into the city of Bremen where he also served as military governor from 1945-1946.
