Description
Painting, oil on canvas, navy, signed Todeschini, early 1900s
rich painting depicting a navy, a coast jagged at sunset, signed at the bottom left.
Lucio Todeschini was born in Milan on February 20, 1892 from A family of artists. The father Giambattista, a painter affirmed in the Lombardy of the late nineteenth century and grandson of the abbot Antonio Stoppani whose famous portrait today to the civic museums of Lecco, had created the lunettes of the Brera courtyard and, with Giuseppe Mentessi, had decorated the lodge of the Palazzo della Permanente in Milan, specializing later in the portrait, but not neglecting the landscape, especially from Lecco. The older brother, Piero (1888-1945) - also a painter and, like Lucio, a pupil of his father - on his return from the Libya war had exhibited to the "artists and patriotic society" his impressions from the true in Africa for which he had Received the gold medal, then dedicating itself to moral-patriotic subjects and the design of billboards.
Professiona architect, Lucio had soon moved to Cortenova in the province of Como, dedicating himself privately to the painting for which he felt a natural inclination. He mainly painted flowers, still lifes, scenes and landscapes of the Valsassina, of which the best known is from the abavoratoio, but above all corners and landscapes of the old Milan, a production that was not abundant that nevertheless experienced an immediate fortune with a large clientele of collectors private.
His is an elegant and pleasant painting, veined with a refined poetic feeling, safe in the mastery of the technical means of drawing and color in the wake of the Lombard landscape of the late nineteenth century, of which it can be considered an epigone, not Without some attention to the developments of the contemporary painting of which there is more than one track in his paintings.
Personal shy and reserved, never manifested interest in personal exhibitions and never presented his paintings in public. Precisely for this reason, today a reconstruction of its catalog and its own artistic biography is difficult and it is completely lacking any form of critical study of its work.
