J. Lee Thompson Collection of 1400+ Vintage Movie Star Photographs and Negatives Taken by His Wife - This collection of vintage 1960s photographs was obtained from the estate of J. Lee Thompson, a British film director known for award-winning films such as Woman in a Dressing Gown and The Guns of Navarone, along with cult classics like Cape Fear, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and The White Buffalo. Most of the images were captured by J. Lee Thompson's companion and beloved wife Penny, during the 1960's while traveling, making movie and working with actors. Some of the photos were also taken by the director himself. The lot includes four large binders with over 1450 photos and their respective negatives. There are 8"x10" prints, 1.5" negative strips, 2" negatives, vintage snap shots, and 35mm transparencies. This collection is being offered in its entirety "as found" unseen by those outside of J. Lee Thompson's inner circle. This is an opportunity for a collector to own the entire lot, nothing has been removed, scanned or copied. The first binder includes approximately 600 original photos captured on set during the filming of Mackenna's Gold (1969), including unseen, unpublished photos of the cast and crew at work, original photos and negatives of Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif, Telly Sevalis, Julie Newmar and others, in a well organized binder with roughly 400 images taken during filming and organized contact sheet strips accompanied with original negatives. The second binder contains around 200 Snap shots taken during the mid 1960's while traveling and working, with corresponding negatives in plastic sleeves. Notable images include several shots of David Niven taken while filming a movie called Before Winter Comes (1968) with negatives included, along with an additional 220 or more 35mm slides (transparencies) in sleeves. The third binder contains over 90 8"x10" black and white photos including rare shots of Walter Matthau playing ping pong, as will as several blown up 8"x 10" prints of various cast members from Mackenna's Gold; Gregory Peck and Omar Sharif and others. The final binder contains nearly 350 images that include pets, sight seeing, behind the scenes photos, snap shots of Robert Redford and more. J. Lee Thompson was a very prolific filmmaker, and these rare personal archives offer a unique perspective of his life.
