1860-Dated. Abraham Lincoln & Hannibal Hamlin Presidential Campaign Ferrotype,with A Very Rare Rim Type, "Union of the States - 1860" - "The Constitution and the Laws." Choice Extremely Fine.
This impressive Ferrotype measures 26 mm or about 15/16" in diameter. It features a crisp cleat image of Abraham Lincoln on one side and that of Hannibal Hamlin on the other. The names of the Presidential candidates are seen above the portraits in the tintype itself. Around the brass frame that holds the images it reads: "Union of the States - 1860" on the side with Lincoln's picture and "The Constitution and the Laws" on the side with Hamlin's photo. The brass "frame" has a hole (as made) at the top edge for suspension from a ribbon badge and is typical of this type of Campaign Ferrotype. We sold a similar example in our June 25, 2011 auction, Lot #140, where that rare variety example realized $1,770.
