Ex: Museum Display Silver Hudson's Bay Type Fur Trade Cross with Multiple Hallmark Stamps on a Beaded Neckless
c. 1900, Silver Hudson's Bay Type Fur Trade Cross, Possibly made for the King George V and Queen Mary tour of Canada, Choice Very Fine.
The decorative Silver Indian Trade Cross measures about 4" x 5.75", suspended on a 23" beaded neckless. Cross is stamped with "NR", "HB" on three of the points and a Crown over "V" over "Montreal" on the bottom point. Central oval stone. An old partially stained, apparent museum display paper Identification Tag that is faded and is hard to read, reads: "Hudson's Bay Type Fur Trade Cross Bar Stamped HB. Montreal. Touchmark NR. Strung With Old Trade Beads." Indeed, the old native trade beads are an emerald green in color and show actual wear from use. The Silver Cross has only slight wear and displays the multiple stamped hallmarks and engraved central decoration prominently. A decorative green stone is placed at center of the cross, apparently made for a person of high importance. At the cross bottom is a British Royal Crown above "V" with a "MONTREAL" hallmark below. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary), toured Canada coast-to-coast as part of an Empire-wide voyage. George, Prince of Wales (later King George V), visited Quebec for the city's tercentenary. A highly decorative and impressive, presented in a shadow box for display.
September 1901-1902. In 1901 the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) traversed Canada over five weeks. Conveyed by special train, the royal couple began their visit at Quebec City in the east and travelled as far as Vancouver in the west.
