December 19, 1799-Dated, Newspaper titled, "The Aurora General Advertiser," Report of the Death of General Washington, Philadelphia, 4 pages, Complete, Very Fine.
The Death of General and President George Washington occurred just a brief Five Days prior to this early Newspaper report. Washington died on December 14, 1799. This Newspaper measures 19.75" x 12.75" with 4 pages. Page two has the noteworthy news item of the Death of General Washington. George Washington's death takes up a single paragraph, being such an early report, and then being fit in print at the very last minute. The newspaper has been conserved so to stay open to better display this historic page 2 report. This same page has commercial advertisements, reward notices, foreign news, and a call for a meeting of Republicans to discuss the upcoming Presidential election. There are some deft archival repairs including to a 3" vertical tear and 1.5" horizontal tear through all 4 pages about 10" from top along right edge. Overall, it is very clean and pleasing in appearance for display. It is fundamentally whole and complete with sharply printed text. An important very early notice on the Death of George Washington. Provenance: From our EAHA Auction of February 2014 where is realized $1,295. Currently housed in a luxe custom binder covered in black fabric and imprinted in gilt-gold reading: "Early Death Notice of President George Washington December 19, 1799".
