Western Europe, Belgium, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. An extravagant pair of nickel-silver riding stirrups made by the Belgium manufacturer G. Laport & Cie for export to South America. The front of the sole is stamped with the maker mark and export city, Rio De Janeiro, and the exterior surface is etched with linear and foliate motifs. This type covered the rider's foot, protecting from rough brush and thorns. Size: 10" L x 4.5" W x 4.5" H (25.4 cm x 11.4 cm x 11.4 cm)
Provenance: private Denver, Colorado, USA collection, acquired in the 1960s

Condition
Surface wear commensurate with age and use, surface pitting and dark patina. Softening to etched motifs, otherwise intact. Stamped maker marks are legible with some rubbing.
