Description
Originally offered at $600...
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A delightful pottery vessel in the form of an adorable dog carrying a bulbous jar with a corseted neck and flared rim. Standing atop 4 nubbin legs that terminate in petite feet, the charming canine displays a portly body and a broad back. His petite head projects from one side presenting large, coffee bean-shaped eyes, an extended snout, a slightly open mouth, and perky, pointed ears, while a short, tapered tail protrudes from the opposite end. While most collectors of Pre-Columbian pottery are familiar with puppies coming from the Colima region, ceramic canines from Jalisco are relatively rare - making this example as unique as it is endearing! Size: 7.9" L x 6.7" W x 7.4" H (20.1 cm x 17 cm x 18.8 cm)
Provenance: private Elkton, Oregon, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
