Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A sweet pottery sculpture of a seated mother holding her child in her left arm. Bare-chested, the maternal figure leans over the infant, lowering her pointed breast toward the child's mouth as though about to begin nursing. She wears a knee-length skirt, bending her legs to the side and placing her right hand on her knee, all while lovingly gazing upon her offspring. The baby is swaddled and lays upon a petite bed with head facing skyward and feet protruding at the other side. Size: 4.4" W x 4.7" H (11.2 cm x 11.9 cm)
