RUSSIAN IMPERIAL LARGE SILVER CENTERPIECE, ANTIP KUZMICHEV
A Russian silver twin-handled centerpiece, stunningly decorated with carved floral ornament, patterns with mascarons, and initials and date 1891-1916 on both sides of the centerpiece.
HALLMARKS: with Russian hallmarks, stamped with silver '84' marks, '875' marks, and silver assay mark 'AK' in Cyrillic for famous silver master Antip Ivanovich Kuzmichev. As you can see the item has two different stamps of silver content: '84' and '875'. '84' mark was used before revolution 1917 and '875' was used after 1917. Two stamps together means what that piece was confiscated, checked again for silver content, stamped and was sold by Russian new government. Rare historian piece.
LARGE SIZE: 15 x 7 inches (38 x 18 cm). Weight: 535 grams.

HISTORY: From the mid-19th century to the early 20th, Russian art of all kinds experienced a renaissance that is known as the Silver Age. Russian artisans were inspired by the Gothic, the Moresque, chinoiserie, the Baroque, the Rococo... all ornate styles replete with scrolling vines and flourishing arches. They combined this with the bright colors and rich ornament of Old Russian applied art to create a unique style.
