Description
Two (2) Italian Majolica Istoriato chargers having polychrome Neoclassical scenes, including Rubboli. 1st item: Attributed to Paolo Rubboli (Italian, 1828-1890) charger depicting a historical Roman scene of a soldier attacking the infant of a pleading mother surrounded by griffin and scrolling foliate design on cobalt ground. Marked "Rubboli Gualdo Tadino" to underside. 14 3/4" dia. 2nd item: Charger having Renaissance-style scene of a woman whose arm is being grasped by a cherub with lamb's tongue border surrounded by grisaille grotesques and scrolling foliate design on cobalt ground. Unmarked. 14" dia. Both items late 19th century.
