A group of twelve John Bull caricature sketches;
late 18th century; in the manner of James Gillray and Thomas Rowlandson
Twelve (12) three and a quarter inch square watercolor / gouache allegorical serial panels on paper depicting the figure of "John Bull" at bucolic ease next to a lake where he first loses his hat, then wig into the water. He haplessly endeavors to retrieve them with his cane which likewise falls into the water, as does he himself head over heals. At which point both he and his belongings are saved by a local farmer's spaniel. He pays the farmer for the action that his dog took to save him but in the end the dog dies for his efforts much to "John Bull's" distress.

12 Unframed. Age toning and minor chipping present but all remain very good overall.
