Exhibited William Barr (Scotland/California, 1867-1933) oil on canvas painting titled "Blacksmith at Monterey" depicting a blacksmith and his apprentice before a forge preparing a product with an anvil in the foreground and a small window above a worktable to the right. Signed "W. Barr" lower left. Partially legible London stamp, en verso of canvas. Printed labels, including Garzoli Gallery, Pacific Grove Art Center 1989 exhibition sticker, and label with title, artist, and medium affixed, en verso. Housed in a giltwood frame with painted fillet. Sight: 13 1/2" H x 17 1/2" W. Framed: 19" H x 23 1/4" W. Note: William Barr was born in Scotland and educated at the Paisley School of Art and Design, the Glasgow School of Art, and the Academie Julian in Paris. He taught in Scotland for ten years before moving to San Francisco, California in 1915. He is known for California landscapes, portraits and genre scenes.
