Item Details
Description
Collection of Five (5) Woodcut Prints by Edward aka Ted Faiers (Canadian/American/Memphis, 1908-1985). All pencil signed and unframed, on Japan paper. Includes "Squirrel in a Locust Tree" dated 1965 (left and right edges folded back); "Rejoice" dated 1960 (stains and hole to top); "Puppet" numbered 17/45 and dated 62 (some yellow spots along top edge); "Sunflower" dated 1961 (2 tape stains upper edge), and "Reverse Flight" dated 1959. Note: "Puppet" is actually a card with inscription inside: "Runnin' late but tryin' hard / Best Wishes for '63 - T." Sizes range from 7 1/8" x 5 1/2" to 9 1/2" x 7". Note: English-born Ted Faiers grew up in Western Canada, was educated at the Art Students League in New York, and taught for more than three decades at the Memphis College of Art. He is known for his abstract works inspired by his mentor Wil Barnet and by Indian space painters, whose forms, colors and patterns recall traditional Native American pottery and weavings. (Source: The Art of Tennessee Catalog, Frist Center, 2003; Ted Faiers website).

The estate of Mr. and Mrs. W. Jeter Eason, Memphis, TN, likely acquired by Mrs. Eason while serving on the board of the Memphis Academy of Art.
