possibly Edo period, two lidded chests specially made to hold a samurai's armor, wood construction, with textured and painted veneer, painted metal mountings, latches, and handles, each with leather cover adorned with gilt MyÅga mon and kanji character, 21 x 16 x 16 in.

surface accretion, loss to veneer on edges, mostly on bases, slight rust to metal mountings, scattered cracks, one box with crack through lid, one box with cracks to side, tearing and rubbing to leather
