Description
Europe, probably Spain or France, 17th to 18th century. Amazingly detailed carved wooden figure of a saint. Standing contrapasso with thin waist, narrow shoulders and long thin legs, with incredibly fine details in the face including small glass eyes and short-cropped hair. The features are somewhat feminine but figure could be male or female and might possibly represent Joan d'arc. Size: 1.5" W x 7.875" H (3.8 cm x 20 cm); 8.75" H (22.2 cm) on included custom stand.
Provenance: private West Hollywood, California, USA collection; ex-Lin Emery (1926-2021) collection, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, acquired prior to 2000
