Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru and/or Bolivia, Huari (Wari) or Tiahuanaco (Tiwanaku) culture, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl displaying a pair of abstract avian creatures in polychrome pigments. Perhaps eagles or vultures, each creature exhibits a sizable aquiline beak, a large eyes, and a red headdress beneath gray feathers. Birds were thought to be messengers between the living and the dead and were prevalent zoomorphic themes on many Huari and Tiahuanaco compositions. Size: 6.5" W x 3.8" H (16.5 cm x 9.7 cm)

Minor nicks, abrasions, and earthen deposits, with light fading to pigment in scattered areas, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to avian motif.
