LOT252 TO LOT344 FROM COLLECTION OF ITALIAN DIPLOMAT GIUSEPPE ROS 1883-1948.

Giuseppe Ros (1883-1948) was born in Naples, Italy on August 12th 1883. His ancestors came from Spain in the second half of the 18th century. After graduating from the Oriental Department of the University of Naples, in the early years he worked in the Civil Engineering Bureau. In March 1908, he passed the interpreter exam of the ministry of foreign affairs. In 1910 He was sent to Shanghai, where he kept close contact with Qimei Chen, an important role of the Qingbang. From 1921 to 1925, he was consul in Hankou and then in Beiping. In 1926 he was appointed as the Italian representative of the International Commission for the study of extraterritorial rights of China, and in 1931, he was the Italian member of the military and civilian commission for the surveillance of the China-Japanese armistice in Shanghai. At the end of 1936 he was sent to Guangzhou as consul general and promoted to consul general in 1942. He retired from the foreign office in 1946 and died of illness on 18th June 1948.

Part of his collection of Chinese porcelain and calligraphy works will be auctioned, including some porcelain from the internal affairs office of the last Qing Dynasty to thank him for sending Italian fire brigade to help put out a fire in Jianfu Palace on June 26th, 1923. The China is accompanied by a special purchase letter and mark dated June 27th from the Ministry of the Interior.

According to the Republic of China "Declaration" reported; "At eleven o'clock in the night, the room Shenwu gate in the west, Jianfu Palace, the fire was burning for about half an hour when they English teacher Johnston arrived, busy to call the Italian legation, the fire brigade into rescue. "Seven or eight Italian fire fighters, men and women, came in through the Donghua gate with their firefighting machines and sprayed the fire. Fortunately, the machine was so excellent that the water line was like a waterfall, so the fire was gradually reduced and the fire was not in danger of spreading until six o'clock after sunrise."

The calligraphy and painting collection was purchased by his wife Rose from WenZhenZhai painting and calligraphy shop in Peiping colored glaze Factory, and each piece of painting and calligraphy has the identification mark of "WenZhenZhai Examination Seal", which was very clear. WenZhanZhai was founded in the 32nd year of Guangxu Dynasty and opened for more than 40 years, identifying and dealing in calligraphy, painting, porcelain and other antiquities. Its Feng Zhanru participated in the acquisition of Sui Dynasty painter Zhan Ziqian's "Spring Tour".
