Description
TOMÃS GÓMEZ GASCÓN (Barcelona, 1960).
Untitled, c. 1986.
Mixed media on paper.
Size: 99 x 139 cm; 103 x 143 cm (frame).
Interested in capturing the human body, in this work the author proposes a face with expressionist features and finish, with a mythical conception based on prehistoric models, simplifying the features and modulating the anatomy. Given the presence of the face and the use of the intense yellow colour, in contrast with the black and white, it is worth noting that the piece probably belongs to the Amphibians series, which was painted by the artist in 1986.
Trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, Tomás Gómez has held personal exhibitions and participated in group shows both nationally and internationally. He has taken part in the group exhibitions "The Shirt Show", held at the Kowa-Kato gallery in Zushi, Japan, in 1982, and "Col-leccionistes d'Art a Catalunya", at the Palau de la Virreina in Barcelona in 1989. He held his first solo exhibition at the René Métras gallery in Barcelona in 1984, and subsequently at the Palacio de la Merced in Cordoba (1986), the Yerba gallery in Murcia (1987) and the Carles Taché gallery in Barcelona (1989), among others. Tomás Gómez's work starts from the expressionism of his early years to evolve towards a figurative language with marked abstract connotations. He is currently represented in various private collections.
