Description
This is a fantastic piece of art potter from Rupert Deese (1924-2010). Red clay bowl with what appears to be a black salt glaze. Inside is a mottled tan with multi point star. Marked on bottom and measures approx 2.5" tall x 7.5" wide
Deese did not get into pottery making until after serving in the Army during WWII. After studying Applied Arts at Pomona College, he became a full time potter. Over his 50 years of crafting, he shared a studio with another well known art potter, Harrison McIntosh where they shared some glazes and kilns. In the 1960s and into the 1980s, Deese also designed for Franciscan Ceramics.
